Driving skills assessment in Pukekohe
A structured 90-minute assessment identifies current strengths, developing skills and the most useful focus for professional lessons or private practice.
Assessment at a glance
Establish a clear baseline
Alistair observes the skills demonstrated across the road conditions encountered that day, then identifies current strengths, support needs and the most useful next priorities.
It does not predict or guarantee a licence-test result. The assessment records a development picture from the drive observed.
Who it can help
The assessment adapts to the driver’s experience and immediate goals.
See current confidence, control and road skills before choosing lesson and private-practice priorities.
Check habits and decision-making before Restricted or Full preparation without treating the drive as an official test.
Give nervous or returning drivers a calm, evidence-based starting point.
Identify strong local driving behaviours and areas requiring familiarisation or coaching.
Assessment or lesson?
Practise during the drive and receive verbal feedback afterward.
Receive structured observation across eight areas, a verbal debrief and a written report within 24 hours.
How it works
The balance follows the driver and the conditions encountered on the day.
Confirm experience, confidence, goals and any upcoming test plans.
Record the skills demonstrated across the road situations encountered.
Complete the verbal debrief, followed by the written report within 24 hours.
Feedback you can use
Your CDS assessment turns the observed drive into a clear development picture. It helps the driver and any authorised support person understand what is going well and what to practise next.
CDS assessments are driver-development reports. They are not official NZTA practical tests or medical fitness-to-drive assessments.
Reading the profile
The level reflects how much support was required and how consistently the skill was demonstrated in the conditions observed.
Frequent instruction and support.
Skill present; regular prompts needed.
Occasional prompts or inconsistency.
Safe and reliable with little prompting.
Plans and adapts independently.
A score in one area is not a licence-test result. The report considers the pattern across all eight areas and records only what could be observed during that drive.
Before you enquire
Share the driver’s experience and goals so Alistair can confirm a suitable arrangement.
A dual-control automatic is available by arrangement. A confident, experienced student may use their suitable vehicle by agreement—recommended when preparing to sit the test in that vehicle. Manual assessments require a suitable student-supplied manual vehicle.
The usual meeting point is outside Greenland Café at The Zone. Other options may include Pukekohe Train Station, Pukekohe High School, the library or a suitable home address, depending on location.
The report is emailed within 24 hours to the student and any caregiver or support driver they authorise. Paying for an assessment does not automatically give someone permission to receive it.
Optional next steps
Use the assessment on its own, or add structured support when it would help.
Start with a baseline
Tell CDS about the driver’s experience, goals, preferred vehicle and any upcoming test date.
