CDS Road Ready

One connected pathway. Clear progress at every stage.

Road Ready connects assessment, professional coaching and supported practice so the student and their caregiver or support driver always understand what is being developed next.

A driver-development programme—not an official NZTA practical test or a guarantee of a test result.

What is provided

More than a block of lessons.

Every part has a purpose: establish the starting point, develop priority skills, make private practice more useful and measure what has changed.

01

Establish the baseline

Initial 60-minute assessment drive and report

The opening drive establishes the student’s current experience, confidence and priority skills without making the first session unnecessarily demanding for a new or inexperienced driver. The written report identifies the most useful focus for the lessons ahead.

You receiveBaseline skills report
02

Develop the priorities

Five 60-minute driving lessons

Lessons are connected to the assessment rather than treated as isolated sessions. After each lesson, an instructor-reviewed mini snapshot shows the radar profile, what strengthened and the next one or two priorities.

You receive5 visual lesson snapshots
03

Improve practice between lessons

30-minute Support Driver Alignment Session

Alistair, the student and their primary support driver agree on calm prompts, suitable practice conditions and the least help needed. The session creates a practical “Next Three Drives” plan, which lesson snapshots can refresh as the student develops.

You receiveGuide + shared practice plan
04

Review the development

Final 90-minute skills assessment

The second assessment revisits the skill areas, shows what has strengthened and identifies anything that still needs work. The updated report provides a clear next-step plan.

You receiveProgress report and next steps

How the pathway works

Assess. Plan. Develop. Practise. Review.

The package creates a feedback loop. What happens in a lesson guides practice, and what happens in practice helps shape the next lesson.

The illuminated lane follows the development journey, with each milestone becoming the next clear focus.

Road Ready development pathway A winding road connects five milestones: Assess, Plan, Develop, Practise and Review. 01 AssessUnderstand thecurrent drive 02 PlanChoose the highest-value priorities 03 DevelopCoach, observe andupdate the profile 04 PractiseUse the next-three-drives focus 05 ReviewMeasure progress anddecide what is next
The Road Ready plan moves from assessment to a development plan, targeted coaching, supported practice and a final progress review.

Progress you can see

A visual progress trail—not just feedback at the beginning and end.

The two full assessment reports review the same core skill areas. Between them, every 60-minute lesson produces a lighter mini snapshot showing the current radar profile, observed progress and the next practice focus.

Only skills observed during that lesson are updated; other areas remain unchanged. Alistair reviews the automated output before it is shared so the report reflects the drive rather than assuming improvement.

  • Observation & AwarenessScanning ahead, checking mirrors and noticing changing road users, signs and conditions before action is needed.

Common questions

What Road Ready is—and what it is not.

Is Road Ready test preparation?

It can support a learner preparing for a Restricted or Full licence test, but the programme is built around safe, consistent driving development rather than memorising a test route.

What arrives after each 60-minute lesson?

A concise, instructor-reviewed mini snapshot shows the current radar profile, the improvement observed during that drive and the next one or two priorities. It also gives the support driver a practical focus for the next three drives.

Does the package guarantee a pass?

No. CDS cannot guarantee an NZTA test result. Road Ready develops the student’s skills, judgement and consistency and gives them a clearer picture of what still needs work.

Are the assessments official NZTA tests?

No. They are CDS driver-development assessments. The reports provide structured feedback and practice priorities; they are not official NZTA results.

How is the support driver involved?

The package includes a 30-minute Support Driver Alignment Session for the student and their primary support driver. Together with Alistair, they agree on calm prompts, suitable practice conditions and a student-specific “Next Three Drives” plan.
